5 Stars when they work, 0 when they dont! August 31, 2010 Jonathan Frank (Ca, USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Ordered one the first time, and it didn't function properly. When the desk was bumped or the monitor touched the lights would go off on the monitor and the screen black. The menu touch sensitive buttons didn't work. So I did research, found this was a common problem with these monitors. Some returned back to Amazon and others back to Samsung since they have a great warranty.
Samsung customer service and warranty are some of the best in the business, but I simply returned to amazon, who gave me a full refund.
I reordered and got a new one, and it worked perfectly. The size:price ratio is outstanding! Quality is samsung quality, the best.
The touch sensitive menu buttons work flawlessly with settings to have them fade off or always be on.
It detects inputs from different devices nicely, if it doesn't then send it back and get a new one since the first one I bought did something similar.
Overall you will get a working one whether Samsung or Amazon send a replacement, and that makes this a 5 star automatic, hands down purchase!
I compared quality to Hans G 28", since I have purchased both for customers, and this monitor blows Hans G out of the water in brightness, contrast, picture quality, and manufacturing quality, not to mention the aesthetics!
Excellent Monitor for an Excellent Price August 29, 2010 Gregory Vergho (OC, California) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Just thought I'd throw in my two cents about this monitor. This is an excellent choice for the price. I bought mine from Costco (I wonder if Amazon will block my post for this... well we will find out.)
PROS:
-Super sharp display (everything I'd expect from Samsung) at 1920 x 1080 resolution.
-Fast response time at 2ms
-Bright, clear display (as one user stated... too bright at factory settings)
-Colors are amazing and black is black (again, expected nothing less from Samsung)
-Turns on and adjusts to appropriate video signal very quickly (I upgraded from a 21" ViewSonic and this was an issue)
-Supplied adapters support DVI to DVI and VGA to DVI, the monitor does not come with an HDMI to HDMI cable but it does have an HDMI input.
-Beautiful display, looks really sharp on my desk, and nice and thin.
CONS:
-Others have mentioned difficulties with the touch controls for on/off and menu features. Yes, at first they are difficult to master, but you wont spend much time with the menu once you've got your brightness and contrast set, and as long as you touch the power spot where the graphic is instead of where you think the light is, you won't have an issue here either.
-No height adjustment. There is tilt and swivel adjustment, though.
-No ability to mount on a wall. The standard 10x10 wall mount is absent on this monitor.
-Others have mentioned no speakers, it's only a monitor, folks. Besides, I have never been impressed with internal speaker quality on a PC monitor.
-Others have mentioned no remote. True, but again, it's only a display, no TV tuner, no speakers. If you hook it up to say a Blue Ray DVD player via HDMI, they have thoughtfully included both a digital fiber optic and analog stereo mini out so you could route sound to an external source.
-Overall, I'm super impressed with this monitor. It is a vast improvement over the ViewSonic 21" 1400x1050 monitor it replaced. For $300, plus a $16 hazardous waste disposal fee, plus tax, it's a bargain for a monitor of this quality. Highly recommended.
Solid monitor August 25, 2010 Steven Eckert (Rochester, MN USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I wanted a fairly large monitor to extend my display from my MacBook. The monitor from mac was too expensive as I need primarily office work on this monitor. So the Samsung fit the bill at a reasonable price. It performs better than I expected which is a plus. I would recommend this monitor.
This monitor makes an excellent bedroom TV at a great price August 16, 2010 B. Wendell (Dallas, TX) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
QUESTION: Why would someone use a computer monitor as a television? Don't you know that Amazon sells actual televisions?
ANSWER: A computer monitor lets you save $50 to $200 on a display that has comparable or better picture than a TV.
That's exactly what I tried with this purchase, and I'm glad I did. After a few simple tweaks, this computer monitor makes an excellent bedroom TV. All for about $100 less than a 720p, 26-inch Samsung TV I was also considering. I purchased this unit at Fry's for about five bucks more than Amazon's price.
Three caveats, however.
(1) NO INTERNAL TUNER. You can't connect anything to the monitor and expect to change channels through the monitor itself. You'll need something that can connect to your monitor using HDMI. This can be a modern cable or satellite box, video game console, blu-ray player, etc. I have it connected to a DirecTV H24-100 receiver.
(2) NO SPEAKERS. Like almost all computer monitors, the unit doesn't have built-in speakers. It does, however, have a rear external port for a mini-stereo jack. You can connect a pair of cheap computer speakers to your monitor and have plenty of sound. I added a pair of $20 Logitech speakers, and they sound great.
(3) NO REMOTE. Again, it's a computer monitor, so there's no remote. Since it has no internal speakers, there's really little need for one anyway. Change the picture settings to your liking using the monitor's subtle buttons and be done with it. There's also no need to power it on or off, because it goes into sleep/energy saver mode when it doesn't detect a signal coming through its HDMI port. In other words, when you turn off your cable/satellite box, the monitor will go to sleep after a couple of minutes. Turn the cable/satellite box back on, and the monitor wakes up instantly. Simple.
Even with those three caveats, I can still highly recommend this monitor if you're looking for an excellent small/secondary TV.
I'm afraid people forget how to review a product August 10, 2010 Neftali P. Ramirez (MN USA) First off, I would like to rate this with 4.5 stars to be exact. 4 seemed too low given the trashy reviews thus far and 5 is exaggerating. If your product is defective, send it back rather than reviewing saying that every monitor must be this way.
REVIEW:
I'm a gamer. Therefore, my standards are high for performance. Not as high as some avid photo or video editors but it's up there. One statement can wrap this review up: "This monitor DELIVERS!".
The reason I would say 4.5/5 rather than 5 is the starlight "touch button" system on the button. It is rather annoying and hard to activate a button. It is flashy and you will rarely need to use it so this doesn't matter TOO much.
The resolution is beautiful, the craftsmanship is beautiful and you can't go wrong with Samsung.
Buy it!
